A successful medication abortion is defined as a complete termination of pregnancy without the needs for an aspiration or surgical procedure. A medical abortion is defined as a failure if an aspiration or surgical procedure is performed. Failure may be the result of continuing pregnancy, incomplete abortion, heavy bleeding, provider judgment, or the request of the woman.
